Not the Droid You're Looking For ([info]sacredwombat) wrote in [info]punk_knitters,

mary poppins' scarf - I think I got it figured out

Based on this picture (http://www.julieandrews.org/gallery/albums/films/mp/normal_mp_03.jpg), I think I got the pattern:

With sport weight yarn, cast on 14 stitches on size 13 needles
K 2 or 3 rows
Row 1 -k1 *yo k2tog* k last stitch
Row 2 - k2 *yo k2tog* k last two stitches
Repeat until it's the length you want
k 2 or 3 rows. Bind off. Add tassles if you want.

Pictures behind cut

I LOVE YOU. Mary Poppins is one of my favorite movies and I've always wanted a scarf just like hers. Thanks for saving me the trouble of actually figuring it out myself, hah.

Your icon rules. Holy crap. I've never laughed out loud at an icon so much before.

Yeah, it's on my lower back. I got it in 95 and can't imagine covering it up. I also have a Tree of Life on my left shoulderblade.

i got mine in 2000 with someone i thought was a friend. needless to say, getting matching tattoos with someone you think you'll be friends with forever is usually a bad idea. i ended up covering it with a hummingbird, which was much more meaningful to me.

That is so neat; I'm actually making scarves like that for Christmas, but I found the pattern somewhere else and am using a lighter yarn. I'm also purling it (which when you think about it is the same as knitting, just backwards). Another funny coinsidence is that I have that tattoo as well, but mine's on my chest and filled in with purple. Strange...

i know it's kinda weird commenting this long after the post, but i love the scarf. i'm having trouble recreating it though...maybe i'm just a knitting retard, but on the second row i always have to knit the last three stiches instead of the last two. and then one side always ends up thicker than the other. should i be finishing row two with a *yo and *K2tog instead?

Hmmmmm, are you sure you're not picking up an extra stitch in there? I just wrote it out on paper again, and this is how it should go:

Row 1:
Knit 1 (stitch 1)
YO K2tog (2&3)
YO K2tog (4&5)
YO K2tog (6&7)
YO K2tog (8&9)
YO K2tog (10 & 11)
YO K2tog (12 &13)
Knit 1 (14)

Row 2:
Knit 2 (1&2)
YO K2tog (3&4)
YO K2tog (5&6)
YO K2tog (7&8)
YO K2tog (9&10)
YO K2tog (11&12)
Knit 2 (13&14)
